Otsuka Yakiniku Jan Blog

Yakiniku and Wagyu beef

This is Yoon, the store manager. Thank you very much for your continued patronage of our store and for visiting this blog. As the manager of “Jan”, a restaurant located in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, a 3-minute walk from the north exit of Otsuka Station, delivering the best meat and a blissful time to everyone, I would like to share my passion today.

The theme of this blog is“Yakiniku and Wagyu beef”is. For us Japanese people, and for gourmets around the world, there is probably nothing that excites our hearts and stimulates our appetites more than the combination of the words “Yakiniku” and “Wagyu.” Today, I would like to talk in detail about the deep charm contained in these two words and how we at Jan approach these wonderful ingredients.

[The magical food culture of Yakiniku]

First, let’s think about the food culture of “Yakiniku” itself. Yakiniku is not just a dish of grilling and eating meat. Gather around the roaster or seven wheels placed in the center of the table, and share a meal with your beloved family, friends, lovers, or co-workers while staring at the same fire. There is a communication that goes beyond words.

The moment a piece of perfectly seasoned meat is placed on top of a red-hot fire, a pleasant “sizzling” sound is heard. Then, a fragrant smell gradually filled the air. The moment when you see the fat gradually rising to the surface of the meat and find the perfect degree of grilling, you feel a sense of exhilaration. And when you bring the meat to your mouth with the special sauce or simple salt, you can’t help but smile.
Yakiniku has the magical power to unconditionally brighten people’s hearts, cheer them up, and make them smile. Even when you’re feeling down, eating Yakiniku will give you energy for the next day.
There is always the glamor of yakiniku at celebrations. I myself fell in love with the energy of the food culture of yakiniku, and have dedicated my life to this work.

[The essence of Wagyu beef that captivates the world]

And it is Wagyu beef that elevates Yakiniku to the ultimate art. Wagyu beef is now loved all over the world and is synonymous with luxury food, but what is the secret behind its deliciousness?

The most distinctive feature of Wagyu beef is its beautiful marbling. The fat inside the lean meat is finely layered like snowflakes, making it a beautiful work of art. Furthermore, Wagyu beef fat has a very low melting point (temperature at which it melts), so the moment you put it in your mouth, it melts with body heat. As the fat melts, it mixes with the rich flavor of the red meat, creating a rich flavor that cannot be described in words.

Furthermore, Wagyu beef“Wagyuko”It has a unique sweet and mellow aroma. By heating it, the aroma becomes even more intense, tickling your nostrils and giving you a deep sense of satisfaction.
This trio of delicate sweetness of fat, deep flavor, and mouth-watering aroma is the reason why Wagyu beef is hailed as the world’s best beef.

[A5 rank Japanese black beef that Jan is particular about]

We, “Jan,” are a specialty store for Japanese black beef. It’s not just any Japanese beef either. We are particular about using the highest grade A5 rank Japanese black beef.

“A5 rank Wagyu beef”When you hear this, you may imagine that it’s a bit difficult to eat, like eating at a high-end restaurant in Ginza or Roppongi, where you have to be careful about the dress code. However, we at Jan, in Otsuka, a city with a downtown atmosphere, would like to break through this common sense.

“Price is downtown, taste is high class”

This is our pride and challenge. We want you to enjoy the truly delicious, top-quality wagyu beef not only on special occasions, but also casually and to the fullest. With this in mind, we have developed our own unique routes and carry out uncompromising procurement. We have absolute confidence in the balance of quality and price that cannot be beat by other stores.

[Introducing our signature must-try menu]

From here, we at Jan would like to introduce some recommended menus that we are proud to offer and allow you to fully enjoy the charm of Wagyu beef.

■Specialty! Wrapped green onion tongue■

This “wrapped green onion top tongue” boasts the highest order rate among customers who visit our store. Among the carefully selected tongues, we only use the “tangen” part, which is especially soft and fatty.
Our artisans carefully wrap each piece of tongue with plenty of green onions seasoned with our special seasoning.
When grilling on a wire rack, the key is to cook slowly on one side to prevent the green onions from spilling, then flip them over to cook quickly. The moment you put it in your mouth, the meat juices overflow with the elasticity of the tongue, and the special green onions, which are steamed inside and have an even sweeter and more aromatic flavor, burst in your mouth. This moment of bliss is our signature dish that we would like everyone to experience.

■Large wagyu beef sirloin■

We offer sirloin, also known as the king of Japanese beef, in a large size that covers the entire grill. The beautifully marbled sirloin is ranked A5 and only needs to be lightly seared.
The melting sweetness of the fat and the rich flavor of the meat go perfectly with white rice, and once you try it, you won’t be able to stop eating white rice! Please enjoy the instinctive Yakiniku with overwhelming cost performance.

■A5 grilled rib roast yukhoe■

This is a superb product that can only be provided because it is fresh. A5 rank rib roast with beautiful marbling is lightly seared and served with rich egg yolk and special sauce. The melt-in-your-mouth texture of the meat, the mellowness of the egg yolk, and the sweetness of the meat combine to create the ultimate yukhoe.

■Highly recommended! Wagyu beef course: 7,700 yen (tax included)■

I have introduced so far“Wrapped green onion top tongue”or“Large wagyu beef sirloin”The 16-course “Wagyu Beef Enjoyment Course” allows you to enjoy A5 rank Wagyu beef to your heart’s content, including Wagyu beef sirloin rice and desserts. From the appetizers to the finest meats and the final meal, this is a very satisfying course packed with all of Jan’s charms and has the highest repeat rate. We also offer the 2-hour all-you-can-drink single item: 2,200 yen (tax included), where you can choose from over 30 types of draft beer (premium malts) and various sours, as well as the “Jan’s Introductory Course: 5,500 yen (tax included),” which you can enjoy a little more casually, so please choose the one that best suits your occasion.

[Jan’s history with the city of Otsuka]

Otsuka, where we, Jan, are located, is a wonderful town where the old-fashioned Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram) runs, and where a somewhat relaxing downtown atmosphere still remains. In recent years, the area in front of the station has been beautifully maintained and has become a lively area where new shops and long-established stores intersect.

In the city of Otsuka, we have been supported not only by local people but also by customers who come from far and wide to visit us. The interior of the store has been created with the aim of creating a chic and calming space that feels like a hideaway for adults.
Our semi-private seating is available for 2 or more people, perfect for a date or anniversary with your loved one. In addition, we have a spacious tatami room (horizontal kotatsu) at the back of the store, which can comfortably accommodate banquets for up to 15 people. Depending on your budget, we can also rent out banquets for 20 to 50 people, so you can use it for a variety of occasions, such as welcome and farewell parties and launches.

Not only are we open for dinner, but our lunch time (11:30-14:30) is also very popular. We are looking forward to serving you with exquisite lunches that will give you a boost of energy during your lunch break, such as “Stewed Beef Bowl” and “Beef Tendon Beef Curry,” which are made with high-quality meat that can only be made at a Yakiniku restaurant. If you’re lost for lunch around Otsuka Station, please open the door to Jan.

[To see everyone’s smiles]

From purchasing Wagyu beef to cutting it, seasoning it, and serving customers, all of us at Jan have a strong desire to make our customers truly happy by eating truly delicious Yakiniku. It is natural for a Yakiniku restaurant to offer delicious meat, but in addition to that, we believe that a comfortable space and warm hospitality make for the best dining experience.

A day when you’re tired from work, a day when something good happens, a day when you meet someone important to you for the first time in a while. No matter what time you come to Jan, delicious Wagyu beef and smiling staff are waiting for you. We will continue to work hard every day to continue to be a place that everyone wants to visit.

Please enjoy a blissful yakiniku experience made with A5-rank Japanese black beef at a hidden gem in Otsuka. If you’re getting hungry thinking about the overflowing meat juices, the bursting aroma of green onions, and the melting sweetness of sirloin, please come to Jan tonight. Our entire staff is looking forward to your visit, serving authentic Wagyu beef without compromise that you won’t find at other restaurants.

Thank you very much for reading to the end. We look forward to seeing you at the store.
